The difference at Rhimahden is that every plant has been considered for the Swan Hill region. The Mallee is its own kind of country: hot, dry summers, cold winters, sandy soils and, in a lot of gardens, real salinity. We buy from local growers and good nurseries across Victoria, so what you take home suits local conditions.
Peta-Lyn and John have been gardening in Swan Hill since 1981. When they recommend a plant, they're speaking from their own garden, not a catalogue.
Growing in the Mallee
What your plants have to deal with here.
Temperatures regularly go above 40°C. Plants need to be heat tolerant as well as drought hardy.
Frosts usually run from mid-May to early September. Anything permanent has to be frost hardy.
Salinity affects a lot of gardens around Swan Hill. We know which plants handle it.
This is semi-arid country, so plants have to cope with long dry spells.

The nursery follows the growing calendar, so what's here in spring is different from autumn. Bare root season is in winter, seedlings come through in spring and the full range is in from October.
